Sara Johnson-Cardona MSW, LCSW

Sara Johnson-Cardona is a bilingual (Spanish and English) therapist, specializing in trauma. She is an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) practitioner, currently working towards certification. Other specialized therapies include, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.  Sara frequently works with clients who have experienced intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and childhood emotional and/or physical abuse.

Guiding her practice is the belief that in order to fully flourish in our daily lives, we must deeply believe in our worth as humans, believe that we are enough as we are, and be able to set appropriate limits with those around us.  Unfortunately, past event's can leave us believing the opposite of all of these things.  Often, these past events are also the events that we keep telling ourselves are "not a big deal" or that we should be "over by now." May you hear that if it causes you pain, it is a big deal; your pain is just as important as anyone else's, and unfortunately telling ourselves to "just get over it" does not usually work. Through EMDR, clients can find their own wisdom and resources to work through past events and engage more fully and joyfully in the present.

Sara has also been trained in Dr. Kristin Neff's work on self-compassion, and teaches clients to approach all of their emotions with compassion.  Through the supportive, encouraging, and strengths based environment she provides clients are able to learn more about themselves and create positive change in their lives. Sara feels incredibly lucky to get to be one part of an individual's journey towards healing, and to get to see the amazing human capacity for resiliency every day.
